KÚON sits quietly within the natural landscape of Hakone Gora,
embracing the layers of time and material presence carried by the existing structure.
Rooted in notions of stillness and retreat, the space invites a gentle descent
into one’s inner self.
Neither distinctly Japanese nor Western, the atmosphere carries a subtle sense of elsewhere—
holding both the immediacy of the extraordinary and a quietness that settles the breath.
Low, ground-oriented perspectives open the body and mind to nature,
loosening tension and allowing a calm clarity to surface.
It becomes a place removed from the noise of the city,
where time unfolds without interruption.
Here, the act of “withdrawing inward” is understood as a form of contemporary luxury.
At the entrance, a 2.8m × 1.8m block of Komatsu stone, quarried in Gora,
anchors the space as something more than a counter—
a monumental presence that shapes the room with quiet strength.
By allowing interactions to occur at angles or side-by-side rather than face-to-face,
the boundary between host and guest softens, creating a sense of ease and equality.
To honor the precision and intimacy of each experience within KÚON,
all furniture is designed exclusively for the hotel.
箱根・強羅の自然の中に佇む KÚON は、
既存建物が積み重ねてきた時間の層と素材の気配を受けとめ、
“静けさ”と“こもり感”を軸に、内側へと沈み込むような体験を描いている。
和でも洋でもない、わずかに異国の空気をまとわせ、
訪れた瞬間の非日常と、深く呼吸が整う静けさを同時に宿す。
床に近い視点で自然と向き合うしつらえが、
身体の緊張をほどき、心をゆるやかに開いていくと共に
都市の喧騒から距離を置き、誰にも干渉されずに過ごす時間。
“こもる”という行為そのものを、いまのラグジュアリーとして捉えている。
エントランスでは、強羅で採石された 2.8m × 1.8m の小松石が、
カウンターの意味を超えた大きな場として、空間の核を静かに形づくる。
向かい合わず、斜めや横並びで人が交わる構成とし、
主客という境界を和らげ、対等でいられる心地よさをつくり出した。
KÚON では、体験の密度を丁寧に扱うため、
家具の一つひとつまでオリジナルで設計している。
